'Two months ago, they sang my name' – Wolves fans turn on Pereira after Burnley defeat
Wolves boss Vitor Pereira was involved in a heated row with his own supporters on Sunday, as they called for him to be dismissed.
Vitor Pereira was exasperated by Wolves' supporters calling for him to be sacked after Burnley inflicted a 3-2 defeat on the Premier League's bottom side on Sunday.
Pereira said before the game that Wolves were in must-win territory as they looked to avoid becoming only the third side in English top-flight history to fail to win any of their opening nine matches in back-to-back seasons.
Bury previously did so in 1904-05 and 1905-06, while Sunderland replicated that unwanted feat in 2015-16 and 2016-17, suffering relegation in the latter campaign.
Wolves looked to be in the ascendency after fighting back from 2-0 down to go into half-time at 2-2, and they spent much of the second period on the front foot.
However, Lyle Foster latched onto Hannibal Mejbri's through-ball in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time to prod home and prompt a furious reaction from the home fans.
Wolves' supporters chanted against Fosun International's ownership of the club throughout the game, while they also targeted Pereira by singing "you're getting sacked in the morning."
After the game, footage circulated on social media showing Pereira remonstrating with fans, with the Portuguese coach having to be restrained by some of his players, including captain Toti Gomes.
Asked what was said during that exchange, Pereira said: "I said to them, we are working a lot and we need to fight together. I understand the frustration.
"The team gave everything to win. If we fight with them (the fans), united, we can win games. Without them, it's impossible.
"Two months ago, they sang my name, but now I understand without results... it's football. Now they sing my name to sack me.
"This is football. If I was a supporter, I would feel proud of my team because they worked and showed the mentality, ambition and spirit to win."
Wolves host Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before visiting Fulham for their next Premier League game in six days' time, with Pereira now under huge pressure.
