Chelsea's Jackson handed two-match ban for Club World Cup dismissal

Chelsea will be without Nicolas Jackson for their next two games, should they reach the last 16 of the Club World Cup.
Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson has been handed a two-match ban following his red card against Flamengo at the Club World Cup.
Jackson was dismissed four minutes after being introduced as a second-half substitute by Enzo Maresca for a lunging tackle on Ayrton Lucas.
Chelsea had led the game thanks to Pedro Neto's early strike, but two goals in three minutes prior to Jackson's red card turned the game on its head.
The Senegal forward was given an automatic one-match ban that rules him out of the Blues' final group game against African side ES Tunis.
But a Fifa disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and decided to extend the ban as it was deemed serious foul play, meaning Jackson will miss their last 16 clash should they make it to that stage.
"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on Chelsea's player Nicolas Jackson who was sent off as a result of a direct red card during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match between his team and CR Flamengo at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, on 20 June 2025..." FIFA said in a statement.
The disciplinary committee's decision is final and cannot be appealed against.
Chelsea are preparing for their final Group D game against ES Tunis, needing to avoid defeat to guarantee their place in the next round of the competition in the United States.
Should they do so, their likely opponents will be the winners of Group C, a position currently held by Bayern Munich ahead of their final group game against Benfica.
