Spain boss De la Fuente shocked by Yamal procedure
Lamine Yamal has withdrawn from Spain's squad after undergoing a procedure on a pubic injury, to the surprise of Luis de la Fuente.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente was shocked by Lamine Yamal having a procedure on an ongoing injury without the knowledge of the national team.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Tuesday that Yamal had been released from the squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures against Georgia and Turkie.
Yamal has been dealing with niggling injuries all season, with Barcelona's teenage superstar currently coping with an issue in his groin and pubic area.
An RFEF statement explained that, without the knowledge of the organisation's medical staff, Yamal had undergone a procedure on the injury on Monday.
The situation has left De la Fuente stunned.
"There are procedures that happen outside the RFEF – that's what happens, that's the way it is and we have to accept it," De la Fuente told RNE, as reported by ESPN.
"But I've never experienced a situation like this before. I don't think it's very normal. Of course, it surprised me, as it did everyone else.
"You don't hear anything, you don't know any details, and I insist, when it comes to health and fitness issues, you're left surprised."
Spain need four points from their last two qualifiers to guarantee their place at next year's World Cup.
De la Fuente has called up Rayo Vallecano's Jorge de Frutos in place of Yamal.
