Beier's head left spinning after last-gasp Dortmund winner
Maximilian Beier was the hero for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, as he scored late in stoppage time to seal a 1-0 Bundesliga win over Koln.
Borussia Dortmund matchwinner Maximilian Beier was left in a state of shock as he celebrated a memorable moment in front of the club's famous Yellow Wall.
Substitute Beier proved to be Dortmund's hero on Saturday as he scored deep in second-half stoppage time to snatch a 1-0 win over Koln.
The goal sparked wild celebrations at Signal Iduna Park, as Niko Kovac's team moved to within two points of second-place RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, albeit they are seven back from leaders Bayern Munich.
Dortmund's goal came with their 27th attempt, though their 1.9 expected goals total shows they struggled to create quality opportunities.
Beier, though, was able to put those struggles to one side as he told BVB-TV: "You can hardly have a better moment than scoring the winning goal in front of the Yellow Wall.
"My head was spinning because everyone was jumping on top of me. I was just standing in the right place and did what I could to get the ball into the goal somehow.
"Then it went through two pairs of legs, so it was definitely a bit lucky. What followed was pure emotion. I didn't really know what to do. I just started running and celebrating."
Dortmund are unbeaten in their last 10 home matches in all competitions (W9 D1) since the beginning of March.
They have also won each of their last four Bundesliga matches against Koln, having tasted victory in just one of the previous five (W1 D1 L3).
"You really have to say it: Koln did a great job," Kovac told Sky Sport.
They defended very well and were extremely dangerous in the first half with their counter-attacks.
"We pressed high from the first minute, we defended with a high line, and we pinned our opponents back until the end.
"That's what I want to see, and that's what our fans want to see too."
