Wolves sack Vitor Pereira after terrible Premier League start
Wolves are seeking their fifth head coach in just over three years, following the dismissal of Vitor Pereira on Sunday.
Wolves have sacked head coach Vitor Pereira after failing to win any of their first 10 Premier League games this season.
The Premier League's bottom club said under-21 coach James Collins and under-18 coach Richard Walker will take training as they finalise the appointment of a new boss, with all eight members of Pereira's backroom staff also departing.
Saturday's dire 3-0 defeat to Fulham made Wolves the first club in English top-flight history to start two successive campaigns with 10 winless games.
Last season, their slow start saw Pereira brought in to replace Gary O'Neil, and he masterminded a turnaround that resulted in them avoiding relegation comfortably.
However, Wolves saw star players Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo depart ahead of 2025-26, with Pereira and new director of football Domenico Teti given increased power over recruitment.
Wolves spent around £100m on the signings of Tolu Arokodare, Fer Lopez, Ladislav Krejci, Jhon Arias, Jackson Tchatchoua and David Moller Wolfe, while also making Jorgen Strand Larsen's loan move permanent for £23m.
But few – if any – of their new recruits have impressed during a terrible start to the season, which has left them with just two points on the board.
Pereira was also handed a new three-year contract in September despite overseeing four straight defeats to start the campaign, though reports suggest that deal contained a clause limiting the compensation due to the Portuguese coach if he was fired.
Chairman Jeff Shi told the club's website: "Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.
"Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change."
Pereira was involved in an angry confrontation with Wolves' fans in the wake of a 3-2 defeat to Burnley at Molineux last week, with Lyle Foster scoring a 95th-minute winner.
He then risked further wrath from supporters when he suggested they should be "proud" of the team's recent performances, and was subjected to more jeers throughout Saturday's loss at Craven Cottage.
Pereira departs with a record of 10 wins, five draws and 17 defeats in 32 Premier League games. His win rate of 31.2% is the fourth-highest among the seven permanent managers to have led Wolves in the competition, after Julen Lopetegui (39.1%), Nuno Espirito Santo (37.7%) and Bruno Lage (34.7%).
Chairman Shi has also been the subject of fan protests in recent weeks, with supporters calling for owners Fosun International to sell the club.
