Arsenal's grit hailed by Trossard after narrow win over Palace

Arsenal gave a gritty showing in their 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, extending their lead at the top.

Leandro Trossard lauded Arsenal's perseverance after they extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners, who are now on a seven-game winning run across all competitions, took the lead in the first half after Eberechi Eze acrobatically volleyed home against his former club.

Eze's goal ensured Mikel Arteta's side have found the net 11 times from set pieces in the Premier League this season — the most of any team, two ahead of Chelsea's tally of nine.

Remarkably, 69% of their total goals in the 2025–26 campaign (11 out of 16) have come from set plays, the highest proportion ever recorded by a club in a single Premier League campaign.

Arsenal are now four points clear at the summit, as they capitalised on would-be title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool both losing this weekend.

"We're really pleased with the win and another clean sheet. We need to keep going. Lately, it has been like that, we have to keep patience throughout the game because we know we can score anytime," Trossard told Sky Sports.

"It would have been nice if we had put the game to bed. We are excited as well. When we get a set-piece we know we can score.

"It's hard to put a finger on it [why we are doing particularly well this season] but every season we learn more and more. We just want to win, we want to win every game."

Meanwhile, Palace have lost two successive away Premier League matches – as many as they had lost in their previous 18 away games combined (W9 D7 L2).

"It's a mixture of frustration about the result and being proud of the performance, especially in the first half. You cannot give Arsenal anything," Palace boss Oliver Glasner told Sky Sports.

"It's a silly foul and we gave them the second shot with [Eze], and we know he has a good shot.

"We tried everything. It shows our progress when we are upset with losing 1-0 here. We are still missing a little bit. Mikel Arteta is doing such a great job. It's about us being a bit better in every single phase. When you get two or three chances, you need to score."
