Spalletti concedes Juventus must improve after goalless Turin derby

Juventus failed to get the better of rivals Torino in the Turin derby and Luciano Spalletti believes they must improve in the final third.

Luciano Spalletti conceded that Juventus “lacked the quality and creativity” needed in the final third during their goalless draw against rivals Torino.

Juventus, who could have moved into the top four with a win in the Derby della Mole, failed to convert any of their 22 shots in the match, producing 1.26 expected goals (xG) from their efforts.

Juventus have failed to score in four of their last six Serie A matches, as many times as in their previous 38 games in the top-flight, while two of the last four derbies between Juventus and Torino in Serie A have ended 0-0.

Spalletti became the first Juventus manager not to win his first derby against Torino in Serie A since Carlo Ancelotti (November 1999), and insisted his side must improve in front of goal.

“We lacked the quality and creativity you need when matches are this rusty,” Spalletti told DAZN.

“In these cases, you need a move that goes against the flow, something a bit illogical. A precise touch to slip the ball between two opponents and maybe a bit of luck. We haven’t had much of that so far.

“We definitely have to improve, because we have the potential to, but I’m happy with the players’ attitude and what I saw. It’s another match we can add to our bank of experience.

“We moved the ball a bit too slowly, and we never really switched play quickly from one side to the other.

“Some players felt a bit of fatigue after playing just two days ago. But I liked how Zhegrova and David came on, and Gatti showed a very positive attitude. I’m very confident.

“We’re not satisfied. Inside the dressing room, nobody was happy.”
