Cristiano Ronaldo recently suggested Ruben Amorim could not work "miracles" with Manchester United's current squad.

Ruben Amorim has called for Manchester United to "forget the past" after Cristiano Ronaldo said the club needed "miracles" to earn consistent results with their current squad.

Ronaldo, who represented United between 2003 and 2009 before returning for a tumultuous second stint from 2021 to 2022, praised Amorim's work during a recent interview with Piers Morgan.

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner argued his compatriot would not be able to return United to the top of the English game without a major overhaul of the squad, saying: "They are not on a good path."

But Amorim feels United need to pay less attention to the views of their former players, as a win over Tottenham on Saturday would – at least temporarily – take them second in the Premier League table.

"He knows he has a huge impact with everything he says," Amorim said when asked about Ronaldo's comments on Thursday.

"We know as a club we made a lot of mistakes in the past. We are trying to change that. Let's not focus on what happened [in the past].

"We are changing a lot of things; the structure, the way we want the players to behave. We are improving. Let's forget a little bit the past."

Amorim and Ronaldo were international team-mates, with the United boss winning all 14 of his senior Portugal caps between 2010 and 2014.

United are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games (three wins, one draw), which represents their joint-best run under Amorim.

The Red Devils last enjoyed a longer run without losing in January and February 2024 (five games), which was also the last time they netted two or more goals in five straight games.
