RB Leipzig end manager search with Werner appointment

RB Leipzig end manager search with Werner appointment

RB Leipzig's three-month wait for a permanent head coach has ended after appointing former Werder Bremen boss Ole Werner as their new boss.

RB Leipzig have appointed Ole Werner as their new head coach with a contract until 2027.

Werner's appointment ends a three-month wait for a permanent successor to Marco Rose, who was sacked back in March after a poor run of form across all competitions.

Interim coach Zsolt Low took the reins for the remainder of the campaign that ended in a disappointing seventh-placed league finish.

Werner left fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen by mutual consent at the end of the 2024-25 season after declining to extend his contract.

The 37-year-old took charge of 128 games across all competitions at Bremen, winning 52 of those matches (D28 L48), averaging a win percentage of 40.63%.

Werner will coach a Leipzig side who will compete only in domestic competitions next season after failing to secure European qualification for the first time since 2016.

"Ole is a young, ambitious and extremely ambitious head coach who will take the next step in his development with us," said Leipzig managing director Marcel Schafer.

"RB Leipzig stands for a bold, attacking style of play with a clear identity, as well as professional and ambitious thinking," Werner said.

"The club has big goals and high expectations and this is exactly the kind of environment that convinced me and one to which I want to contribute."
