Joshua Kimmich scored Bayern Munich's opening goal as the Bundesliga leaders beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 to make it 13 straight wins.

Bayern Munich's record-equalling start to the season is a result of their hard work and patience paying off, so says Joshua Kimmich.

Bundesliga leaders Bayern made it 13 straight wins to start 2025-26 on Saturday, as they downed 10-man Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0.

That tally of consecutive victories to start the season matches the record previously set by AC Milan in 1992-93, among teams in Europe's top five leagues.

Kimmich scored the opener before substitutes Raphael Guerreiro and Lennart Karl made sure of the points for Bayern.

"Our 13 competitive victories at the start are no coincidence, it’s the reward for hard work, consistent training and a clear structure in the team," said Kimmich, as quoted by Bayern's official website.

"We have a really good team, you can see the lads who come on are ready immediately. That's crucial.

"We're happy for each other when they score or set up a goal. Our team is very homogeneous, without everything being all sunshine and roses. It's about the performance; everyone wants to assert themselves, but we all do it for the team."

Bayern held a numerical advantage from the 19th minute, when Jens Castrop saw red, but it took until after the hour for Vincent Kompany's team to make the breakthrough.

"It definitely was a game of patience," added Kimmich. "At the beginning, my impression was that Gladbach wanted to press high. They had ambitious plans, they were bold and got off to a decent start.

"The red card made it a game of patience, they changed their plan then and sat really deep. We knew we had to stay calm and patient."

Kompany was delighted with how Bayern kept their cool as Monchengladbach attempted to scrap their way to a positive result.

"We felt they gave it everything despite the red card – the fans cheered many moments," he said.

"We stayed calm and tried to keep the emotions in check. We kept up the tempo in the second half and played many cross-field balls. You have to take your chances at some point, and that’s what we did."

Bayern will look to set a new record for successive wins to start a campaign when they take on Koln in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.
