Parker: Burnley 'earned the right' to late winner against Wolves

Scott Parker said his Burnley side were worthy of the win after Lyle Foster's injury-time goal handed them a 3-2 victory over Wolves.

Burnley boss Scott Parker believes his side “earned the right” to snatch victory in stoppage time after they overcame crisis-club Wolves 3-2 at Molineux.

Parker’s men had been on the wrong end of tight losses to Manchester United and Liverpool earlier in the season, conceding late winners on both occasions, but Lyle Foster’s 95th-minute winner ensured Burnley would record back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since April 2022.

They had earlier taken a 2-0 lead as Zian Flemming scored twice in the first half-hour, but Wolves were level by the break as Jorgen Strand Larsen pulled a goal back from the penalty spot and Marshall Munetsi headed in an equaliser.

Foster’s goal moved Burnley up to 16th in the table and Parker felt the winner was deserved, especially given their gutting defeats earlier in the campaign.

He said to BBC Sport: "We have been hugely competitive this year.

“We scored in the dying seconds today; in other games, we have conceded in the dying seconds. We probably earned the right to get that today.”

Parker believes a crucial goal of that nature could propel his young side further and strengthen the group as a whole, as they seek to retain their top-flight status.

He said: “Back-to-back wins is pretty massive for us, and our first away win.

“It's something we need to build on and will bring confidence to such a young team. It's a massive win for us.

"I am immensely proud of this group. They have got something about them."

Flemming became the first Burnley player to score more than once in an away Premier League match since Maxwel Cornet against Southampton in October 2021, and Parker praised his performance, noting how integral he was to their promotion from the Championship last season.

"Both goals were brilliant goals for us,” said Parker. “I am pleased for him, he was crucial for us last year, and he has not been in the team.

“He made his start last week and scored two goals today. I am delighted for him."
