Manchester City have secured the future of midfielder Yui Hasegawa ahead of the start of the new Women's Super League season.

Yui Hasegawa has signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping her at the club through to 2029.

The Japan international signed for City in 2022 from West Ham, and her current contract was due to run out in 2027.

Hasegawa has proved a vital part of City's squad in recent years and played in every Women's Super League match last season, with only six players across the competition playing more minutes than her 1,939.

No player won back possession more times than Hasegawa (174) in the WSL in 2024-25, with 21 of those recoveries made in the final third.

"I'm very happy to have signed my contract extension. I'm so excited," she told the club's media channels.

"I'm so excited because we can win the title this season. Because we have great players and a good football style, so I hope this season will be good.

"I really want to win the title at this club, and there are players I want to play with. This is one of the biggest reasons [why I wanted] to stay here."

Hasegawa has been named in the PFA Team of the Year in each of the last three seasons.

City announced Hasegawa's new deal on deadline day, with the club still in the market.

Reports say they have agreed a deal with Manchester United for Grace Clinton, while Jess Park is said to be going the other way in a separate deal, having completed a medical on Wednesday.

City begin their WSL campaign against reigning champions Chelsea on Friday.
