Los Angeles FC forward Son Heung-min and new Vancouver Whitecaps signing Thomas Muller both scored their first MLS goals on Saturday.

Son Heung-min scored his first goal in MLS as Los Angeles FC drew 1-1 with FC Dallas, with team-mate Nkosi Tafari describing his wonderful free-kick as a work of art.

Son has wasted no time in getting up to speed following his arrival from Tottenham, winning a penalty as a substitute on his debut against the Chicago Fire, then registering an assist against the New England Revolution on his first start.

But his best moment yet came at Toyota Stadium on Saturday, as he whipped a terrific free-kick past Dallas goalkeeper Michael Collodi in the sixth minute.

Logan Farrington's strike deflected in for a 13th-minute equaliser and LAFC were made to settle for a point despite dominating the second half, amassing 1.45 expected goals (xG) to the hosts' 0.37.

However, the result did extend their unbeaten run to three matches, and they sit fourth in the Western Conference, 12 points off leaders San Diego FC with three games in hand.

"We were practising free-kicks the day before," said defender Tafari. "I looked at the top corner and, like magic, the ball ended up there. I was incredibly happy for him.

"This guy's first three games – hang it in the Louvre! He earns a penalty, then gets an assist, then gets a goal.

"I don't know what's going to happen next week! That's on him, but he's doing a phenomenal job and I love his energy."

Son's long-awaited home debut could come next week against San Diego, with LAFC last playing in front of their own fans at BMO Stadium on July 25.

And the Tottenham icon cannot wait for that occasion, saying: "Now, we have a full week to recover and then prepare well for the important game.

"I can't wait to play it because it's my first home game for LAFC, and also against good opponents."

Son was not the only big name to score his first MLS goal on Saturday, with Thomas Muller converting a penalty 14 minutes into second-half stoppage time as the Vancouver Whitecaps beat St. Louis City 3-2.

Vancouver had twice fallen behind to goals from Eduard Lowen and Joao Klauss, with Brian White and Daniel Rios both scoring equalisers.

But the decisive moment came when a lengthy VAR review ended with Mykhi Joyner being penalised for tripping Mathias Laborda inside the box, and Muller blasted his kick into the roof of the net in the 104th minute.

Having scored his first career goal for a club other than Bayern Munich, the 35-year-old said: "It was an amazing moment for me.

"On one side, we have this pressure because, with a penalty, you have a good chance to score. But what happens if you miss? You’re already writing your news: Thomas Muller missed a penalty!

"I like to have this pressure, and when my team-mates were cheering for me, it was a very nice feeling to score this goal in front of our fans."

The Whitecaps are third in the Western Conference, just four points off the leaders, who drew 0-0 with the Portland Timbers, with a game in hand.

Minnesota United are second, having won 3-1 at Real Salt Lake with Brayan Vera putting through his own net, before Robin Lod and Joaquin Pereyra got on the scoresheet.
