'It will be special' – Tottenham's Frank relishing Brentford reunion

'It will be special' Tottenham's Frank relishing Brentford reunion

Thomas Frank left Brentford for Tottenham in June and will face his former club for the first time in the Premier League this weekend.

Thomas Frank is looking forward to a "special" reunion with Brentford when his Tottenham side host them in the Premier League on Saturday.

This will be Frank's first meeting with Brentford since leaving over the summer, and he is in need of a win, with Spurs winless in their last five matches in all competitions, though they did snatch a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Newcastle in midweek.

They are winless in four in the Premier League, leaving them 11th in the table.

Four of the last six occasions a Spurs boss has faced a specific former side for the first time, they have lost, but Frank is relishing this weekend's match.

"I spent almost a quarter of my life there," said Frank. "I had a fantastic time there, I enjoyed every second of it.

"A lot of people I'll see on Saturday who I haven't seen for a long time. I used to see them every day, more or less, so that will be special.

"[Keith Andrews] has done a remarkable job. It's never easy stepping up into your first head coach role. They lost crucial players in the summer, and he's continued the Brentford identity, so big praise.

"But when the whistle goes, it's all about getting the three points. Everyone knows the respect I have for Brentford, the fans and everyone.

"But in the 90 minutes it's all about one thing – do what we can to win the game."

Brentford, meanwhile, are level on points with Spurs, but are two points below them due to an inferior goal difference.

The Bees have alternated between a win and a loss in their last six league games, losing 2-0 to Arsenal on Wednesday.

Keith Andrews made a lot of changes to his line-up for that game, opting not to start Igor Thiago, but defended his decision amid the busy schedule.

"Impressed, but not surprised," Andrews said of the result. "They train really, really hard; they push each other.

"I have so much confidence in [the squad], picking the team on a weekly basis is difficult at times."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Tottenham – Mohammed Kudus

Mohammed Kudus has five assists for Tottenham in the Premier League this season, already just one short of his highest return in the competition (six in 2023-24).

With a goal against Fulham and an assist against Newcastle United, the Ghanaian is looking to register a goal involvement in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time.

Brentford – Igor Thiago

Igor Thiago has scored nine goals in his last eight Premier League starts, with these goals being worth eight points to Brentford.

The Brazilian already has 11 goals across the top-flight season, hitting double figures in a single campaign earlier than any other Brentford player in the competition before.

MATCH PREDICTION: TOTTENHAM WIN

Spurs have lost just one of their eight Premier League meetings with Brentford (W4 D3), winning each of the last three in a row.

However, Tottenham have lost their last three league London derby matches, last losing more consecutively between March and October 2021 (five).

Brentford, meanwhile, have lost three of their four Premier League away games against Spurs, with the exception being a 3-1 win in May 2023.

But a draw could be a more likely result, given that no side has lost more Premier League away games than Brentford this season (six), with only Wolves (one) picking up fewer points on the road than the Bees (three).

And Spurs have won just three of their 16 Premier League home games in 2025 (D3 L10), their lowest win rate across a calendar year in their league history (19%). Meanwhile, their 10 home defeats this year are also a joint-high for the club, along with 1994 and 2003.

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

Tottenham – 44.5%

Draw – 26.8%

Brentford – 28.7%
