Paris Saint-Germain lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, despite playing the second half with a numerical advantage.

Luis Enrique lamented Paris Saint-Germain's bad luck with injuries this season but put the onus on the European champions to perform to a higher standard.

PSG went down 2-1 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, suffering their first Champions League defeat of the season.

Luis Diaz scored a first-half double before he was sent off prior to the break for a rash lunge on Achraf Hakimi.

The full-back had to go off and was in tears as he did so, compounding PSG's frustration, with Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele having previously limped off with an issue after seeing a goal disallowed for offside.

And though Luis Enrique was unable to offer a positive update on either of his stricken star players, he still believes PSG - who pulled one back through Joao Neves but could not make their second-half dominance count further - must be better.

"Bayern were the better team in the first half," he said.

"They created more chances than we did. We gave away a lot of opportunities in the first half. When you give away too much, it's normal to be losing the game at half-time.

"However, the second half was different because we had an extra player.

"I can’t remember a single match with the full squad, but it’s our responsibility to do better. Today we have to accept that the opponent was better than us.

"I’m calm. I know we’ll overcome this. I hope, during the season, to regain our form and have the players back to play at our level.

"We’ve played some good matches this season despite the problems we’ve had. It’s the same old story."

PSG are top of Ligue 1 but only by two points, having failed to win four of their opening 11 games.

When asked about Dembele and Hakimi, Luis Enrique said: "I don’t know. We have to wait until tomorrow, after the medical exams, to see exactly what injuries the two players have.

"Dembele’s injury has nothing to do with his previous one. But he played for as long as you saw. Achraf is part of football. It’s a contact sport.

"It’s a shame. It’s tough for the players. These things happen. I remember [Jamal] Musiala’s injury [at the Club World Cup]. It’s just bad luck."
