Ange Postecoglou's tenure at Nottingham Forest is over, with the decision coming shortly after the full-time whistle against Chelsea.

Ryan Yates admitted he was a "little bit shocked" by Ange Postecoglou's sacking but urged his Nottingham Forest team-mates to move on.

Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto and Reece James all scored in the second half on Saturday as Chelsea consigned Forest to a 3-0 Premier League defeat at the City Ground.

And it was a costly one, as news of Postecoglou's sacking was made official only 18 minutes after the full-time whistle.

Postecoglou spent just 39 days in charge of Forest, the shortest managerial reign of any permanent Premier League boss to leave a club during the season.

Forest struggled under the Australian, failing to win any of their eight matches under him in all competitions; they were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Swansea City, while they have drawn and lost their first two Europa League matches.

Yates acknowledged that the results have not been good enough and said the players need to take responsibility.

"Ange addressed us after the game. So much disappointment in the dressing room," Yates told beIN Sports.

"The news broke – it's the nature of the beast. We haven't been good enough on the pitch, and we have to take a lot of responsibility.

"We owe it to the fans moving forward to start getting some really good results and take it from there.

"[Postecoglou spoke] to us straight after the game. I went out to do some running, then I was told. A little bit shocked. You get used to it in football, and you have to move on quickly.

"The games are coming thick and fast. We know we have the belief and the quality to turn it round. It's down to us as players to give everything.

"I don't think [the players have seen Postecoglou since]. I've not spoken to many people. I don't know what to say, to be fair.

"That's football. You need results, and we haven't been good enough, not making our own luck. We back the club, whatever steps they make moving forwards."

Postecoglou was the first mid-season Premier League appointment to see his team score just one goal in his first five games in charge since Alan Shearer at Newcastle United in 2009, who would go on to be relegated.

The 60-year-old's dismissal comes the day after an explosive, impassioned defence of his time at Forest and Tottenham last season, in which he claimed "the story always ends the same, with me and a trophy".
