Mikel Arteta has added to his coaching staff following the exit of Carlos Cuesta, with former team-mate Gabriel Heinze joining the team.

Gabriel Heinze has joined Arsenal’s coaching staff as a men’s first team coach.

Mikel Arteta lost Carlos Cuesta from his team after he decided to take the role of head coach with Serie A club Parma.

Heinze already has a relationship with Arteta after the two played together at PSG when the Arsenal manager was just a teenager.

Heinze has managerial experience under his belt too. He previously managed Godoy Cruz, Argentinos Juniors and Velez Sarsfield before more recent spells with Atlanta United in MLS and Newell’s Old Boys.

The Argentinian coach also has Premier League pedigree following his time at Manchester United as a player. He played 52 times in the league and won the title once, in 2007.

Arsenal said in a statement: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Gabriel Heinze to our coaching staff as men’s First Team Coach.

Heinze, a former Argentina international, brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the club.

We are excited with the introduction of Gabriel to our men’s first-team coaching staff, and welcome him and his family to Arsenal.”
