Roma boss Gasperini warns Ferguson over attitude

Evan Ferguson has had the gauntlet laid out for him by unimpressed Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini ahead of facing Celtic.

Gian Piero Gasperini has warned Evan Ferguson that his attitude must improve if he is to turn around his flagging fortunes at Roma.

The Republic of Ireland international has scored just one goal in 14 appearances across all competitions this season, and there have been reports his loan from Brighton could be cut short in January.

Paulo Dybala and Tommaso Baldanzi have often been deployed centrally in a false nine position over Ferguson, despite Artem Dovbyk having spent time on the sidelines with injury.

Roma coach Gasperini said Ferguson has had plenty of opportunities to impress but has simply not been able to grasp his chance.

Speaking to the media prior to Roma's Europa League clash at Celtic, Gasperini said in quotes translated by Football Italia: "I have nothing against him personally.

"It's about the performances. Ferguson had a lot of chances.

"We want to wait for him to develop, but he has to do better, not just on a technical level, but in terms of attitude.

"For example, Mario Hermoso is a pillar of the locker room too, someone who sets the example on the field."

Dybala was only fit enough to come off the bench as Roma fell to defeat to Napoli over the weekend but the Argentina ace is ready to start in Glasgow as Gasperini's men look to improve on their current standing of 15th in the league phase.

Gasperini added: "Dybala has shaken off the flu, he has been training for a while, so everyone who is here can play."
