Napoli's Anguissa a doubt for AFCON after suffering high-grade thigh injury
Napoli's Frank Anguissa could miss up to 12 weeks with a thigh injury, with the Africa Cup of Nations a little over a month away.
Napoli have confirmed Frank Anguissa has suffered a high-grade injury to his left thigh, which could threaten his hopes of representing Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Anguissa sustained the injury while training with his national team and returned to Italy to undergo tests, with initial reports suggesting it was not serious.
However, on Thursday, Napoli said Anguissa had sustained "a high-grade lesion to the biceps femoris in his left thigh."
The Scudetto holders said Anguissa had already begun a rehabilitation programme, but reports in the Italian media claim he could now miss between eight and 12 weeks.
With Cameroon opening their Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Gabon on Christmas Eve, the former Fulham man now appears unlikely to feature at the tournament.
The Africa Cup of Nations runs from December 21 to January 18, with Ivory Coast and Mozambique also drawn into Group F alongside the Indomitable Lions.
He could also miss a series of key games at club level, with Napoli set to face Atalanta, Roma, Juventus and Udinese before Christmas.
They also have Champions League games against Qarabag and Benfica, as well as a Coppa Italia tie versus Cremonese and a Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against AC Milan, to come before the festive period.
He will definitely miss Cameroon's World Cup qualifying play-off tie against DR Congo on Thursday, with the winners set to face Nigeria or Gabon for the right to feature in the inter-confederation play-offs next March.
