Coventry City looked set to suffer just their second league defeat of the season, but the Championship leaders hit back against West Brom.

Championship leaders Coventry City snatched victory as they fought back from 2-0 down to beat 10-man West Brom 3-2 on Saturday.

Coventry looked set to suffer just their second league defeat of the season when Aune Heggebo netted a double inside 32 minutes at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Josh Eccles headed in from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto's cross to reduce the deficit before half-time, and Coventry's comeback hopes were boosted when Jayson Molumby picked up his second yellow card in the 49th minute.

Ellis Simms' header restored parity seven minutes later, and the comeback was complete when Victor Torp volleyed home soon after.

Frank Lampard's team are now seven points clear at the top after Middlesbrough could only draw 1-1 at Oxford United. Third-place Stoke City, meanwhile, went down 2-1 at Leicester City, who are just a point outside the play-off places.

Birmingham City are also in the hunt for the top six, as they moved up to ninth with a 4-1 thumping of lowly Norwich City - Jay Stansfield and Marvin Ducksch helping themselves to doubles.

Southampton made it three wins on the bounce as they hammered Charlton Athletic 5-1 at The Valley, in the first meeting between the teams in 14 years.

All of the goals came in the first half, with Ryan Manning, Adam Armstrong, Finn Azaz and Caspar Jander putting the visitors 5-0 up before Lloyd Jones grabbed a consolation for Charlton.

There was late drama at Pride Park, where Edo Kayembe netted in the 85th and 88th minutes to cap a superb 3-2 comeback win for Watford over Derby County.

Data Debrief: Coventry end long wait for back-to-back victories over Baggies

Not since 1985 had Coventry secured back-to-back league wins over West Brom, but having beat the Baggies in April, Lampard's team have now ended that 40-year wait.

Torp proved to be their match-winner with his fine volley, although that was the Dane's only shot on target, from a team-leading five attempts.

Southampton's Armstrong, meanwhile, had a whopping eight shots in their win at Charlton, though he only got two on target. He did, however, provide two assists.
