Chelsea are preparing to kick off their Women's Champions League campaign against FC Twente on Wednesday, as they look to start strongly.

Sonia Bompastor has emphasised Chelsea's lofty ambitions for their upcoming Champions League campaign, ahead of their opener against FC Twente on Wednesday.

The Blues have come flying out of the blocks this season, sitting top of the Women's Super League, and are undefeated in their opening five games (W4 D1). Their emphatic start means they have extended their WSL unbeaten run to 30 games.

Wednesday's game will be the third meeting between Twente and Chelsea in the Champions League after the two sides clashed in last season’s group stage, with the Blues running out winners in both fixtures, including a 3-1 win at De Grolsch Veste.

After reaching the Champions League semi-finals last season, Bompastor outlined her goals for Chelsea’s upcoming European campaign, which will feature a league phase structure for the first time.

“We are really excited to start a new format in this competition,” Bompastor said.

“Playing in the Champions League is the highest level club competition, and we already said we have a lot of ambitions as a club at Chelsea.

"We want to perform at our best level in this competition and make sure we go as far as we can.”
