Coventry's lead at the Championship summit remained at six points after defeat to Ipswich Town, while Sheffield United's climb continued.

Ipswich Town ended Coventry City's five-game winning run in the Championship in style as Kieran McKenna's side thumped the second-tier leaders 3-0 at Portman Road.

Coventry had their lead at the summit cut to six points following Middlesbrough's thrashing of Hull City on Friday, but the Sky Blues were unable to regain their nine-point advantage.

Sindre Egeli curled Ipswich into a 43rd-minute lead after being found by Jaden Philogene on the edge of the box, and it got even better for the Tractor Boys on the hour mark.

A ball over the top of the Coventry defence from Marcelino Nunez sent George Hirst on his way, with the striker composing himself before finishing coolly beyond Carl Rushworth.

Coventry tried to reduce the arrears in the closing stages, but Ivan Azon sealed the win in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time after picking out the bottom-right corner.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Sheffield United's resurgence under Chris Wilder continued as they downed play-off hopefuls Stoke City 4-0 at Bramall Lane.

Mark McGuinness' 10th-minute header put the Blades in front before two goals in four minutes from Femi Seriki and Patrick Bamford had the game all but won by half-time.

Further gloss was added to the scoreline 13 minutes from time when Ashley Phillips fouled Andre Brooks, with Sydie Peck stepping up to dispatch the resulting penalty.

It is now four wins on the spin for Wilder's team, who moved up to 18th in the table and are just eight points behind Stoke, who occupy the final play-off position after 19 games.

But Saturday's action started with a five-goal thriller at Vicarage Road, with Watford coming from a goal down to beat strugglers Norwich City 3-2 thanks to Tom Ince's late goal.

Ince's first goal for 13 months saw Watford close the gap to the play-off places, while Philippe Clement still awaits his first win since taking over the Canaries last month.

Oscar Schwartau had put Norwich 2-1 up going into the break, having seen Luca Kjerrumgaard cancel out Josh Sargent's 11th-minute opener in the contest.

Watford restored parity as Kjerrumgaard notched his second just after the hour before Ince emerged from the bench to find the back of the net with 12 minutes remaining.

At Pride Park, Leicester City got back on track with a 3-1 win over rivals Derby County, with all three of the Foxes' goals coming inside the opening 31 minutes of the match.

Data Debrief: Free-scoring Sky Blues brought back down to earth

Coventry's 3-1 win over Charlton last time out saw them reach 50 goals for the season in 18 games, the fastest a second-tier side has scored 50+ in a campaign since Sheffield Wednesday in 1958-59 (16), but their attack was unable to fire here.

Indeed, Lampard's side were restricted to an expected goals (xG) total of just 0.43 from their 10 attempts to Ipswich's 1.05 from the same number of shots. The Tractor Boys have also now won five of their last six league games against Coventry (D1 L1).

But one side not shy of scoring goals is Sheffield United. They have now won their last four league games, netting more than three goals in each. They last won four in a row while scoring 3+ goals each time in April 2017 in League One.
