Nico O'Reilly has been included in England's senior squad for the first time after being called up as a replacement for Reece James.

Reece James has pulled out of England's squad through injury, with Manchester City's Nico O'Reilly replacing him.

James has made 14 appearances for Chelsea in 2025-26, including the Club World Cup, and played all 90 minutes in their last-gasp 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

However, England confirmed in a statement that the right-back sustained an injury in that match, forcing him out of the upcoming matches.

In his place, O'Reilly has received his first senior call-up, having originally been included in the Under-21 squad for the October international break.

The 20-year-old has impressed for Pep Guardiola's side so far this term and has started each of their last four Premier League matches.

In their win over Brentford, O'Reilly created two chances and also had the highest passing accuracy in the final third (90.9%) of any player to complete the full 90 minutes.

He is often deployed at left-back by Guardiola, playing 80% of his minutes there in all competitions since the start of last season.

England face Wales in an international friendly on Thursday before travelling to Latvia in World Cup qualifying on October 14.
