Everton 1-1 Tottenham: Keane stunner denies Stellini debut win in dramatic battle

Everton rescued a late draw via a stunning Michael Keane goal to deny Tottenham in their first game since Antonio Conte's sacking.

Michael Keane's sensational 90th-minute strike salvaged a 1-1 draw for Everton as Cristian Stellini was denied three points in his first match since stepping into Antonio Conte's void at Tottenham.

The defender scored a 25-yard screamer to snatch a point for the Toffees at Goodison Park on Monday against a Spurs side who had otherwise looked set for a win that would have lifted them up to third.

Harry Kane earlier scored from the penalty spot to give Spurs the lead shortly after he had been involved in an altercation that saw Abdoulaye Doucoure sent off.

Lucas Moura was given his marching orders as well, and then Keane intervened to spark raucous scenes for Sean Dyche's men.

In their first game since the 3-3 draw with Southampton that sealed Conte's fate, Spurs looked to have a battle on their hands in a physical first half.

However, they were handed a gift when Doucoure lost his cool and pushed Kane in the face over a challenge in the 58th minute, earning a red card.

Kane then sent England team-mate Jordan Pickford the wrong way 10 minutes later when Spurs won a penalty for a Keane foul on Cristian Romero.

Despite their disadvantage, Everton pushed relentlessly and the numbers were evened up when Lucas went in hard on Keane.

But the defender dusted himself off to complete his redemption two minutes later, smashing into the top-right corner to seal a result that lifted the Toffees out of the bottom three.

What does it mean? Spurs stutter on first game back

Having parted ways with Conte during the international break, Tottenham would have been hoping for a emphatic start on their return to Premier League action.

Instead, they dropped points against a side battling for survival at the other end of the table, and with it, missed a good opportunity to really boost their top-four claims, particularly considering those around them have games in hand on them.

Kane maintains rich Toffees record

Even if it came from the penalty spot, the striker's latest goal continued his fine success rate against Everton in the Premier League.

He now has 15 goals against the Toffees, and has only scored more against Leicester City (18).

Keane leads from the back

Dyche might have cause for concern when one of the men with the joint-most shots in his side is a centre-back.

But with three attempts, two on target and one crucial equaliser, Keane certainly cannot be accused of failing to redeem himself following the earlier penalty concession.

Key Opta facts

- Everton have picked up 12 points from their nine Premier League games under Sean Dyche (W3 D3 L3), after accruing just five in their last nine under Frank Lampard (W1 D2 L6).

- Everton have been shown 105 red cards in Premier League history, three more than any other side (Arsenal next on 102).

- Harry Kane registered his 250th Premier League goal involvement (205 goals, 45 assists), with only five players managing more (Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Ryan Giggs, Andrew Cole).

- Michael Keane's equaliser came from 29.23 yards out, the furthest out an Everton player has scored in the Premier League since Andros Townsend against Burnley in September 2021 (29:72).

Everton make the trip to face Manchester United on Saturday, while Tottenham return home to host Brighton and Hove Albion the same day.
