Laporta: Real Madrid and Perez have 'Barcelonaitis' after Super League break down

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez took aim at Barcelona in his Christmas address, and Joan Laporta quickly hit back at his counterpart.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says Real Madrid's complaints aimed towards the club are due to the breakdown of the Super League.

Madrid president Florentino Perez used his Christmas address to draw attention to the Negreira case, the refereeing corruption charge against Barcelona.

Perez referred to it as the “biggest scandal in the history of football” and called for the Blaugrana to be punished, which is the opposite of the 2024 address in which he claimed Madrid and Barcelona needed to stick together.

In LaLiga, Barcelona top the pile, with 42 points from their opening 17 games, and they sit four points ahead of Madrid, who have struggled to find their footing under Xabi Alonso.

And Laporta hit back at Perez, claiming he was trying to turn the attention away from Madrid's recent stumbles.

"The Barcelonaitis is getting worse, and I see it's taken root in the hearts of Madrid fans. Nothing more to say," Laporta told Sport.

"Things are going well for us because they're more worried about us than they should be. They keep dragging out the Negreira issue to justify something that isn't working out for them."

Laporta also believes it is down to Barcelona pulling out of the Super League project, which had unified the Clasico rivals.

"If the discourse has changed, it's because last year there was agreement on certain projects, and now, seeing that these projects haven't come to fruition," Laporta added.

"We have an agreement with UEFA because what we seek is peace in football, and others apparently don't."
