Manchester City started their transfer business on Wednesday, bringing in promising defender Jade Rose from Harvard University.

Manchester City have made their first signing of the transfer window, bringing in Jade Rose.

The versatile defender has signed a four-year contract with the Women's Super League club, joining from Harvard University, and will officially join the club on July 1.

Rose has made 28 appearances for Canada since making her senior debut in the She Believes Cup in 2021 at the age of 18.

During her time in the United States collegiate system, she won back-to-back Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year awards and was also named Canada's Soccer Young Player of the Year in 2023.

"I'm so incredibly excited [to join City], so proud of how far I've come, and I just can't wait to get started," she told the club's media channels.

"I think the history of the club, the fans, the style of play, the city, everything [attracted me to City].

"I'm just super excited to get started. I'm ready to win the Champions League, to win every trophy that's out there. I think the sky is the limit for this team, and I can't wait to grow and get at it."

Gotham FC were reportedly one of a number of NWSL teams that were interested in Rose, with City's local rivals Manchester United also among those to have expressed interest.

City finished fourth in the WSL last term under interim head coach Nick Cushing, after Gareth Taylor left mid-season. They are yet to confirm who their new head coach will be.
