Luis Enrique to display PSG squad depth against Lorient
Paris Saint-Germain returned to the Ligue 1 summit with a win against Brest, and they could extend their lead when they face Lorient.
Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has revealed he will rotate his squad for their Ligue 1 fixture against Lorient on Wednesday.
The reigning champions returned to the top of the league after they beat Brest 3-0 ahead of Marseille’s 2-1 defeat to Lens on Saturday.
The Parisiens had drawn their previous two league games against Strasbourg and Lille respectively, but they regained momentum with a 7-2 rout of Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last week.
Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Marquinhos have all returned from injury in recent games, while several academy players were also spotted training with the first team.
Luis Enrique will look to use their strength in numbers against Lorient, as he explained the importance of having versatile players in the squad.
“It'll be difficult tomorrow, against Lorient. We're trying to manage the squad and the playing time of each player in the best way,” said the PSG boss in his press conference.
“It's very good news to be getting some players back, and all the players called into the squad could play. I hope to have all the players available as quickly as possible, that's important for us.
“There are several young players from the academy that can help the team. During the season, it will become normal to see them training and playing with the first team.
“We're a real example of a team whose players change positions during the game. It's nice to see that we're putting in place something positive for the team.
“It's very important to be able to play in several positions. We have players who can perform well in several positions. I see that quality in the majority of our players, and that's positive for me as a coach.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Lorient – Arsene Kouassi
Kouassi has attempted (27) and completed (15) the most dribbles by any defender in Ligue 1 this season, and also leads all Lorient players in this ranking.
He has registered three assists and one goal in nine Ligue 1 fixtures following his move from AC Ajaccio in the summer.
Paris Saint-Germain – Desire Doue
Doue missed six matches in all competitions for PSG after suffering an injury during the international break, but he has marked his return to the first team in style.
Along with his goal against Brest last time out, he also scored twice against Leverkusen and recorded an assist in the 3-3 draw against Strasbourg.
MATCH PREDICTION – PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN WIN
Lorient won seven and lost five of their first 17 Ligue 1 games against PSG (D5), but since then, they have recorded just two wins (D2 L13) from their subsequent 17 meetings in the competition.
PSG have scored at least three goals in 27 of their 55 matches in all competitions in 2025 and could already equal their highest total of games with at least three goals scored in a single calendar year (all competitions, 28 in 2018).
And after having won their last away game in Ligue 1 (3-0 at Brest), PSG could record consecutive away wins without conceding a goal for the first time in the competition since November and December 2023 (3-0 at Reims then 2-0 at Le Havre).
However, Lorient have scored in each of their last seven Ligue 1 home games (18 goals in total), their longest such run since January to November 2021 (17). They have also scored 11 goals at home this season, their highest tally after their first four home games of a season in the top flight.
PSG are heavy favourites, though, and there are reasons to suggest it could be a low-scoring affair. PSG (83) and Lorient (89) are two of the three teams, along with Marseille (83), that have conceded the fewest shots in Ligue 1 this season.
