Liverpool 'the better team in every game' during losing streak, claims Toppmoller

Dino Toppmoller remains wary of Liverpool, claiming they are still favourites in their Champions League clash despite their losing streak.

Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmoller remains wary of Liverpool, who he believes have been "the better team in every game".

Liverpool are currently on a four-match losing streak in all competitions, with a 2-1 loss to rivals Manchester United stretching the run on Sunday.

That followed Premier League defeats to Crystal Palace and Chelsea on either side of going down 1-0 to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

And Arne Slot has now lost (five) more games than he has won (four) away from home in Europe (nine matches in total).

Eintracht have faced Liverpool twice before in Europe, with those meetings coming in the first round of the 1972-73 UEFA Cup – the Reds progressed 2-0 on aggregate, drawing the away fixture 0-0.

Despite their recent struggles, Liverpool are backed by the Opta supercomputer to win on Wednesday, coming out on top in 56.7% of the pre-match simulations, and Toppmoller is not getting complacent.

"When you watch the games, which of course we did, you see that they seem to lack a bit of a spark at the moment," he said.

"But in every game, they've been the better team and have had more chances at goal.

"We're expecting a world-class team [on Wednesday]. You've got to be aware of what it does to a team to lose four in a row."

Eintracht have had a mixed start to their Champions League campaign, opening with a thumping 5-1 win over Galatasaray before falling to Atletico Madrid by the same scoreline.

Hugo Ekitike will be returning to face his former club on Wednesday, but Florian Wirtz is also returning to Germany following a disappointing start to his life on Merseyside.

Toppmoller, though, expects the German to provide Liverpool with a significant threat.

"[He's been] quite decent, even if he hasn't got the numbers he had in [Bayer] Leverkusen," he added of Wirtz.

"He's at a club where the spotlight is so bright and where people across the world are always watching.

"I'm incredibly convinced of his quality. I hope he doesn't show that [on Wednesday], that's something we should worry about."

Slot, meanwhile, remains determined to get Liverpool back on track after their recent defeats, saying that run has increased their desire to claim a win.

"Yeah, it should, but like I said before the United game, it should not matter if we win or lose a game of football for the next one," he told Liverpool's website.

"The aim if you play for Liverpool, if you wear this shirt, is to win every single game. So, if we win seven in a row, how we started the season, then we want to win the next three. We didn't. Now we've lost the last four.

"So now, of course, we want to see Liverpool winning again. But that is not different when you lost four in a row, or you won four in a row – it is just what is expected of you if you play for Liverpool."
