Glasner thrilled as Palace best Liverpool again
Crystal Palace once again had the beating of Liverpool and Oliver Glasner hailed his side's progression in the EFL Cup at Anfield.
Oliver Glasner hailed his Crystal Palace side for getting the better of Liverpool for the third time already this season courtesy of a resounding 3-0 round-of-16 EFL Cup win at Anfield.
Ismaila Sarr scored twice and Yeremy Pino added a late third on Merseyside after Reds youngster Amara Nallo was sent off for the second time in as many competitive Liverpool appearances.
FA Cup holders Palace had already beaten Premier League champions Liverpool on penalties to win the Community Shield back in August, and earned a 2-1 top-flight win over Arne Slot's side at the end of September that started a run of six defeats in seven competitive outings for the Reds.
Palace boss Glasner felt his side recovered from a sluggish start to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they face a trip to Arsenal in December.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Glasner said: "It was a good win today. It took us 15 minutes to be in the game.
"The first 15 minutes we didn't do well, we had the feeling we were still in the hotel beds. We played slowly into the game, we scored nice goals, the performance was okay, but it was not a great performance.
"We did well, scored nice goals, and controlled the game. I don't know how often this happens when you play the champions three times within three months, and you win three times. So, credit to the players."
Liverpool assembled an extensive squad in the close season, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz arriving to strengthen their ranks.
But Reds boss Slot opted to name a side consisting largely of fringe and youth players for the contest.
However, Glasner is adamant there was still plenty of quality in the Reds' line-up for Palace to think about.
"We didn't know who they were going to play. Andy Robertson, (Wataru) Endo, (Milos) Kerkez, and (Alexis) Mac Allister (all played)," Glasner added.
"Mac Allister is a world champion and yes, a few young players. Rio Ngumoha has shown already he can score goals."
