Chelsea had to turn to their bench to beat Cardiff City, with substitutes Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto securing the 3-1 win on Tuesday.

Pedro Neto says Chelsea have the right mindset to win trophies after they booked their place in the EFL Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Cardiff City.

Neto and Alejandro Garnacho, who netted a double, came off the bench to secure the victory for Chelsea, who had been pegged back by David Turnbull's header after the Argentinian had opened the scoring.

Chelsea have progressed from their last 19 EFL Cup ties against sides from a lower division, registering their sixth straight win over Cardiff in the process.

However, it was far from comfortable. Enzo Maresca made 11 changes to his line-up from Saturday's win over Everton, and Chelsea struggled to get a foothold in the first half.

The half-time introductions of Garnacho and Joao Pedro flipped the game, with Neto also having an almost immediate impact.

And he praised Chelsea's resilience as they booked their place in a third semi-final under Maresca, with the Blues hoping to win their first domestic trophy since the 2018 FA Cup.

"It's really important. The manager said in the last 18 months, this is the third semi-final we had, so we are really happy with that," Neto told Sky Sports.

"We got the win, so we are already looking for the next game. Sometimes we were under control, but sometimes it's the small details that make the difference.

"Maybe we lost a bit of concentration because we had a lot of corners in the time in the game, and the first time they went up after the corners, they score. So, it was a bit of a lack of concentration, but in the end, we could go through, so we are really happy.

"It was the concentration. It was the will of winning this game. We wanted to win a lot this game. Then we had guys on the pitch who could make the difference, and Garna [Garnacho] helped us a lot as well with two goals.

"We are Chelsea, we want to win trophies. Our mindset is to win all the games."

Cardiff competed well with Chelsea, and in the first half had more shots (six to the Blues' five), though they struggled to match their visitors after the break.

Turnbull's goal came against the run of play, though he almost grabbed a second, sending a looping effort onto the roof of the net before Garnacho scored Chelsea's third goal.

"It was evident the players gave everything for the club, and it was an incredible atmosphere and a memorable night," Cardiff boss Brian Barry-Murphy told Sky Sports.

"I guess it's the hope that kills you when we scored the goal through David Turnbull, probably all got carried away, myself included, trying to get that second goal.

"I couldn't be prouder of the players. The way they played the game from the first minutes, exactly in the identity we want from this club, and the supporters really revel in that and got behind us."
